The techie voice of frustration

Got a virus? Get a new computer immediately!

Picture this. You walk into a new car dealership to buy a car. You work and personal life neccesitates owning such a piece of equipment. So you pay for it completely because you have the cash and you drive it home. Best $30K you ever spent. 3 months after the “free trial mechanical bug protection gaurantee”
You get worried and buy the retail version and keep paying every year when they ‘update’ the guarantee.

You are happy with it as the car allows you to get to work, go shopping, see your friends and take trips. Three years later and and every month since buying the car company send out updates and “fixes” for various issues but you really never noticed any problems and happily did your thing. Today something awful happens. The brakes fail horribly. No significant damage but the problem happens at the worst possible time….beach party with ALL you friends. Your car screams across a parking lot and you narrowly avoid all your friend’s cars….or so you think.

For some strange reason your friends start calling you a jynx. They say that now THEIR cars have brake problems too and it’s all your fault!

You take the car to a local mechanic (because why would you ever take it back to the guys you trsuted to buy the car from eh?). He says “you need a new car but we’ll transfer the “mechanical bug protection gaurantee” and for some reason you don’t question this, even though you know that it failed to protect you, you simply will not give up the idea because you ‘just paid for a renewal’.

Folks, wake up! This story is a mirror one to what I just heard about someone’s computer. Person got a virus that sent out emails to people inher address book, called a ‘tech’ (and I use that term VERY loosely) who tells her she should buy a new computer and reuse Norton!! Yeah, the same program that did NOT protect her the first time. Seriously, this guy needs a beating with an ISA 2MB MCA video card! Then have his wounds soaked in pool of iodine.

I’m gonna try and rescue the poor, misguided woman and save her and her money while destroying the moron she called.

Having been active around technology for almost 30 years, and seeing many people failing to grasp both it’s importance as well as it’s basic usage, I decided it was high-time to show the world how idiotic they can be. People simply need to have a bigger vision of the tools that have been given to them.
